Honey up, mushrooms down

The direct effects of climate change on forests will also affect woodland products. Mushroom production, for instance, might well diminish, while medicinal and aromatic plants, and honey might increase.
Forest are also increasingly under threat from urban sprawl, especially in Barcelona’s surrounding areas. In some cases woodland is being abandoned to the point where it may revert to wilderness, and therefore become unproductive. The lack of rainfall will increase the risk of fire, especially in summer.
These conclusions can be found in 2005 report on climate change in Catalonia, commissioned by the Consell Assessor per al Desenvolupament Sostenible and directed by Josep Enric Llebot, a physicist at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
